Nissan JUKE: The Quintessential Crossover
First released in Australia in 2013, the Nissan JUKE was arguably one of the first true crossovers, as at this time, if you wanted a lot of storage, there were either station wagons, or traditional SUVs.
The JUKE and all crossovers in general, in essence, are for those that need a lot of cabin space, but don’t want something large and heavier, such as the Nissan Patrol or Pathfinder of the time. It was and still is, for people that love the convenience of a hatchback, but prefer some more breathing room.
These features demanded by the key buyers were and still are, nailed by the JUKE. These features being:
Affordability & Cheap Running Costs
The Manufactures Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 2013 Nissan JUKE was $21,990 in Australia which was considerably below the average cost of a new car. It was obvious to see why the JUKES are an attractive option. Nowadays, the MSRP for a 2021 Nissan JUKE was only $25,990 for the base model, where the average price of a car in Australia was $40,729.
On top of that, maintaining and running the car was and is another impressive feature. The 2013 JUKE promotes a 6L/100kms fuel consumption, which has since been lowered to 5.8L/100kms. This is combined with their reliability and lower than average serving costs.
Convenient Size
As mentioned, the size of the JUKE was much like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, where a hatchback was too small, but a large SUV was too big. Much like the tale, people found the JUKE just right, where they had enough space for their road trip luggage but can still parallel park in the city without breaking a sweat.
Design & Tech
The JUKE’S design is unique, people have mixed opinions depending on personal taste, but those that like it, love it!
Sharp and aggressive lines down the body make it very eye-catching and futuristic looking, and the fastback rear takes inspiration from Nissan’s 2 door sports car, the 350z and 370z, providing a shape that promotes performance and speed.
From the driver’s point of view, modernity and futurism is in abundance. With smooth lines everywhere you look, with contrasting colours and fabrics help provide the appearance of luxury and performance. This is coupled with thick and cushy seats, a sporty D-shaped steering wheel, 8-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and many more technology packed features.
The Quintessential Crossover
Nowadays, almost every car brand from Toyota to Lamborghini has some version of an SUV, and whilst they are becoming increasing impressive and can do just about anything, crossovers fit a market that SUVs can never achieve. Because of how useful yet compact and fuel efficient they are, demand will continue to rise as people are realising they can have the best of both worlds.
Many great options are available in the compact SUV market, but with the improvements Nissan has made and will continue to make in 2022, the Nissan JUKE is truly one of the most desirable options on the market, as it does everything that a crossover should be able to do, only better.
