The GWM ORA is amost here and will surprise all other electrical vehicles in it's class.
In early 2023, GWM will be bringing it’s full electric hatch to Australia. Here is what we know so far about the car.
Models
There are 3 models planned for the Australian market with size, colors and features all common to the Ora and the battery size and range the only thing to differentiate them. To make life easier they would simply be called the Ora Standard Range and the Ora Long Range. There will be a top spec GT with bigger alloy wheels and distinctive exterior styling differences but will not be available at launch and as yet a release date has not been determined.
Features
The Ora will come with a full set of common features across all models including
- Leatherette Seats
- 10.25 inch full colour instrument cluster
- 10.25 inch multimedia touch screen
- Wireless Charger
- 360 degree around-view camera with reverse sensors
- 18 inch alloy wheels
- LED lights with daytime running lamps
- Electronic seats for both driver and passenger seats
This will make the Ora feature rich with standard equipment usually found in the higher models of it’s petrol competitors. Gone are cloth seats and hubcaps with leather and alloys slowly becoming the new normal.
Engine
Both release models will share a common engine providing instant performance when needed through a one pedal driving mode.
The full electric motor has a rated output of 125kW of power and 250Nm of torque which shows Chinese ingenuity at work. GWM has managed to squeeze more power out of an electric engine compared to some small turbo charged petrol engines and hopefully acceleration without the turbo lag.
Battery
The Ora Standard will have a 48 kWh battery which will claim a travel range of 310 km using the new WLTP testing method.
The Long Range model will have a 63 kWh battery and is boasting a range of 420 km WLTP which most average SUV’s can last on a full tank of petrol.
Charging options are yet to be fully revealed but GWM are claiming a possible boosted charge rate of 41 minutes to go from 10% to 80% on the Standard Ora.
*WLTP is a new standardised testing process to determine fuel efficiency for all vehicles in Europe and was introduced in September 2017. More information can be found here.
Safety
The fantastic news is the Ora will come with a full set of standard safety features which resulted in it being awarded a 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating. Testing will commence in Australia shortly to obtain its ANCAP safety Rating.
Safety features should become standard soon but some of these features are only usually available in higher specification models.
The Ora will have
- - Autonomous Emergency braking with pedestrian, cycling and crossing detection
- - Forward Collision Warning
- - Intelligent Adaptive cruise control with stop and go
- - Lane Departure Warning with Lane keep assist
- - Lance Centre Keeping with emergency Lane Keep
- - Rear Cross Traffic alert with rear collision warning
- - Traffic sign recognition
- - Camera based driver drowsiness detection
GWM certainly has pulled out all the stops with safety in mind and included all the systems as standard and not a differentiator between models.
Colours
The Ora will be available in 5 exterior colours at launch and 2 interior trims.
All colours will come with a black interior while the Aurora Green will be the only colour available that will be matched to a Turquoise interior.
